New Take on the Sloppy Joe

Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes Recipe

These Philly cheese steak sloppy joes take your favorite ingredients of a Philly cheese steak sandwich and combine them with a sloppy joe. What I love about this recipe is that it is so easy to prepare and is great if you are looking for a quick meal. The process to preparing these sloppy joes is easy. Ground beef is cooked in the pan with onion and bell peppers. The mixture then gets flavor from steak sauce, beef broth, salt and pepper. A provolone cheese sauce is prepared by combining butter, flour, milk, and provolone. If you don’t want to prepare the cheese sauce, using provolone cheese slices would be great as well. These Philly cheese steak sloppy joes make a great dinner for any night of the week. Enjoy.

1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1lb ground beef
1 medium onion (chopped)
1 medium green bell pepper (seeded and chopped)
¼ cup steak sauce
1 cup beef broth
salt and ground black pepper (to taste)
4 hamburger buns
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon flour
1 cup milk
1 cup provolone cheese (shredded)

Cooking Instructions:

Step 1: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook while breaking the ground beef up into chunks with a spatula or spoon until browned. Add the green bell pepper and onion and cook for 3-4 minutes, until the onions start to become tender. Drain an excess liquid. Stir in steak sauce and beef broth, season with salt and pepper. Bring to a boil and cook until the mixture is thickened and bubbly.
Step 2: While the meat is cooking, split the hamburger buns and butter each of the cut sides. Heat a large skillet to medium heat. Place split hamburger buns cut side down into the skillet and cook until lightly browned on the bottom. Remove from the pan and set aside.
Step 3: melt butter in a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute. Whisk in milk and cook until the mixture is thickened and bubbly. Remove from heat and stir in the cheese until it is melted and incorporated into the sauce.
Step 4: To assemble sloppy joes- pile the meat mixture onto the top of the bottom half of each bun, top with the provolone cheese sauce, and place the top half of the hamburger bun onto the sandwich.
(Makes 4 Servings)

Ramen Noodles – Who Knew?

Since my dental work has left my pearly whites feeling a bit sore I was looking for something soft to make for supper. Low and behold since it has finally warmed up in the tundra grilling season is in full swing. With an abundance of meat and veggies in the fridge I hadn’t put much thought into filling the pantry with anything, but one lonely package of Ramen noodles remained. Since the idea of hot soup didn’t thrill me on this 90º day I went to search out other uses for Ramen and to my surprise people have experimented a lot with this 25¢ meal. Here are a few ideas, I think I’ll try the 1st super quick dish tonight since Trin ♥ spaghetti. 🙂

Super Quick Ramen Dishes

1. Pour heated marinara sauce over hot boiled ramen noodles for a meal reminiscent of spaghetti in half the time.
2. Heat your favorite Alfredo sauce and pour over hot boiled ramen. Stir in diced ham or cooked chicken if you have any on hand.
3. To one package of boiled ramen noodles, stir in a can of tuna drained, a can of cream of mushroom soup and a handful of crushed potato chips, if you wish.
4. Parmesan ramen is as quick as cooking a package of ramen and sprinkling on cup of grated Parmesan cheese. Stir in a bit of fresh parsley if you’ve got it.
5. Stir-fry a package of frozen vegetables with 4 ounces cubed firm tofu. Stir in boiled ramen noodles and season with 1 tablespoon each soy sauce and lime juice. Add Tabasco to taste.
6. Sauté a clove of chopped garlic in a teaspoon of olive oil. Stir in boiled noodles, 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice, and season to taste with salt and pepper.
7. Stir your favorite pesto sauce into hot boiled ramen noodles.
8. Heat up a can of chili and serve over hot boiled ramen noodles.
9. Mix cooled boiled ramen noodles with three-bean salad and some additional Italian dressing.
10. Add of a chicken flavored seasoning packet, 1 tablespoon butter, and 2-3 tablespoons milk to a package of boiled drained ramen for a creamy side dish.
11. To one package of boiled noodles, stir in cup of salsa, cup sliced pepperoni or ham strips, 1 tablespoon pickle relish, and 1 teaspoon mustard for jail break ramen.

Ramen Desserts

1. Place three sponge cake dessert cups on a plate. Top with sliced banana, 1/3 cup maraschino cherries, package of fried ramen noodles and cup hot fudge sauce.

2. Chocolate ramen is for when you need a serious sugar fix. Boil ramen in 2 cups of water with cup of brown sugar added. Pour off most of the water and then stir in teaspoon of vanilla and cup chocolate syrup. Pour onto serving plate and sprinkle powdered sugar over it. Garnish with whipped cream if you wish. Wash down with a tall glass of milk.

3. Mix up one 3-ounce package of fruit-flavored gelatin according to package directions. Stir in a package of fried ramen and chill until set.

4. Place three scopes of ice cream in a bowl. Top with 1/3 cup hot fried ramen noodles and your favorite ice cream sauce. (Carmel works well.)

Ramen for Breakfast

1. Break an egg in with the ramen noodles while boiling. Add seasoning packet as directed and enjoy a filling breakfast soup.

2. In a medium saucepan, boil just enough water to cover a block of ramen. When water comes to a boil, add block of ramen and then a layer of onion and tomato slices. Top with a whole raw egg. Put the over on and cook until the egg reaches desired doneness.

3. Boil ramen noodles and one beaten egg for three minutes. Drain all but 1 tablespoon water. Stir in seasoning packet, cup shredded cheese and a dash or two of hot sauce. Wrap flavored noodles in warm tortillas for breakfast burritos.

Delicious crockpot meals

I love anything I can make in the crockpot. The whole idea of throwing it in and coming home to a ready dish is awesome…and if you happen to be home while it’s cooking, you get to smell the yumminess all day long 😉

I have pinned insane amounts of meals like this on Pinterest. You could honesty spend all day looking at them. To save you a little time, I’m going to show you a few that I’ve tried and the family has enjoyed.

Mississippi Roast This is seriously amazing. I was a little leery of the ingredients but I’m so glad we tried it.

Crockpot Lasagna
I go a littler heavier on the sauce and cheese but this is another super easy and well liked meal.

Crockpot Beef Stroganoff
Another winner…just make sure the cream cheese is room temperature before you try combine it or you’ll have a lumpy sauce.

Crockpot Monkey Bread
Ok, so it’s not exactly a meal, but it’s still good!

Crockpot Chicken with beans and corn
This is awesome as a taco, burrito, or on chips or over rice. You can adjust your salsa choice to meet the preferences of you and your family.

Crockpot Italian Soup
This one smelled a little weird but tasted great. Again, be sure to have the cream cheese at room temperature!

I also love to make pulled pork in the crockpot. I’ve never really followed an exact recipe when I make it but here is the general idea:
1 pork butt or shoulder roast, salt and pepper, chili flakes, Worcestershire sauce, beer and water to cover most of roast in crockpot. Cook on low for 10 or so hours. Dumb water, pull bone if there was one, stir to shred pork, add BBQ sauce of choice and mix it in. Let it sit for a bit to soak in the sauce and serve on buns.

There’s many more I could post for you but we will save those for another day 🙂
